Reloaders seldom give wads the same critical attention given to other components. Often the result is poor performance – due entirely to the wad. Paper cup and fiber wads provide effective gas pressure seals inslug loads. Plastic shot cups protect buckshot pellets and provide improved pattern performance for new low recoil buck shot loads. And of course the reload wouldn’t be complete without Winchester shot. Winchester’s uniform, chilled lead shot provides consistent shot patterns and better penetration. Notes:

• Petal design protects the shot against flat-spotting, minimizes flyers in the pattern.
• Wad must collapse at pre-determined rate in order to insure the proper pressure curve from the burning powder.

Wads are essential for shotshell reloading. They fill extra space in the hull to make sure there is no room for the shot and powder to move around. They also act as a barrier between the powder and shot charges to ensure proper powder ignition, protect the shot from hot gasses and seal gasses behind the shot so that it can be propelled down the barrel. The wad also acts as a dual barrier to protect the barrel from becoming damaged by hard shot and to protect soft shot from becoming deformed by contact with hard barrel steel.
