The 455 Webley Automatic Mark 1 was the final product of the British pistol cartridges of this caliber. It was admitted in 1912 for use in Webley Scott pistols of the Navy and in 1915 furnished to the land forces of the Royal Flying Corps and finally in 1919 to the Air Force. In 1915 Colt 1911 pistol models were chambered for this caliber. Officially the cartridge was given the designation Mk. 1 in 1927.
